Snow and high winds as forecast

Nasty day today and the snow and high winds came from an unfamiliar direction.

Lying in bed the house sounded different with some new noises that got me up early to investigate - no problems found!

It was bin day and of course despite the care I took when putting it in position last night it had fallen over - luckily the contents stayed in there and was joined by snow blowing in the open top. I went out to put it back in place just in time for the lorry.

I took my camera out to the bottom of the Snake Pass to take a photo of the new warning sign - but it still had no message on it. I went back later and it had a Road closed message from about 9:30. Anybody who drove past it was crazy but some did.

Later in the morning this section of a large conifer crashed to the ground - the tree is 3 times this height and the main trunk is still standing. Goldfinches have been nest building in this tree in the last week.

A quieter period around lunchtime gave time to clear things up and feed the birds.

From around 4 pm it has all started again. It sounds bad and the snow is blowing again.

Turning up the heating and hoping for better days ahead.
