Boodjamulla

We had a Zoom conversation with our friend CB, and that reminded us of the trip the three of us had to Boodjamulla National Park in 2016.

Boodjamulla, formerly called Lawn Hill, is in remote north west Queensland. The name means Rainbow Serpent Country. Boodjamulla is a spectacular oasis in the middle of the outback red dirt, with sandstone cliffs and a winding sandstone gorge with brilliant emerald green water and lush vegetation. To the south is the world heritage listed Riversleigh fossil site, with 25m year old fossil deposits, one of the most important in Australia.

Footnote: the cabins we stayed in (extra) are very much like those at the Howard Springs quarantine centre near Darwin. You wouldn’t want to spend 14 days quarantine in one of them.
