Charterhouse

We are Friends of the Charterhouse, which was founded as a Carthusian priory in 1348 but became a school for the young and an almshouse for the old.  It still provides a home for 40 "brothers", a few of whom are women.  Indeed the current Master is the first woman to hold the post.

It's round the corner from our flat, just outside the City of London.  Today was the Friends' Garden Party, and the sun came out for the first time for a long time.  This view is from the walkway on top of the cloisters which looks across the garden of St Bartholomew's Hospital Medical School to the Charterhouse chapel and beyond to the towers of the Barbican.
