Light the North #7

Another grey day so Mrs CBL and I headed for Fraserburgh.  We went via Symposium at Crimond,  where we sipped our coffees and nibbled on fancy pieces.

There are two sculptures in the Broch designed by professional artists.  Katie Barrett’s lighthouse is named ‘A Guiding Light’ and is on show in the square in the town centre (see first extra).  The artwork on the lighthouse depicts myths and legends of a compass, ancient sea maps, sea creatures and shipwrecks.  These illustrations represent both the trials and tribulations as well as the more desirable and positive outcomes of the lives of those affected by cancer.

The second sculpture is on show, appropriately, outside the entrance to the Museum of Scottish Lighthouses is ‘Illuminations, Shore and Sea’ and it is the creation of Fiona Chance.  The Northern Lighthouse Board asked her to create a design which shows lighthouses to be ‘guardians of the sea’ that also shine their light on Scotland’s moody coastline which teems with sea life.

We had great fun in Fraserburgh and it’s a new favourite lighthouse for me.
