Ennerdale from Windy Gap

The prospect of a couple of days of perfect weather prompted a plan to escape to the Lakes and introduce Forrest to running in the high fells. Having not visited any proper mountains in over a year, I found my hill legs to have gone missing, discovering a new respect for my younger self and the speed at which I used to be able to traverse these rugged tops.

Camping in Rosthwaite, we ascended Scafell Pike via Seathwaite and Esk Hause, returning over Great Gable, Green Gable and Base Brown, finding an off-piste descent down to Sour Milk Gill. I was wasted at the end of what was a very hot day. Keeping up with Forrest, even when he's taking it easy, has become daunting!

There were quite a few people on Scafell Pike but we had Great Gable to ourselves, a moment which was very special. This has always been a very favourite top of mine.

There have not been many times in recent years when I've had trouble choosing which picture to post for the day. The soft light made for perfect conditions for photography. Eventually, this view of Ennerdale from the col between Great and Green Gable won the day. Windy Gap was positively balmy today.
