Arachnaphobes ……

…. Will have passed this one by.

I was talking to my Mum, looking out of the front window, when I noticed the large orb spider. It had constructed its web between a winter jasmine bush, and a plant support to a campanula, and seemed to be repairing the web. When the call ended I went out with my camera but the spider had retreated to the bush, legs on the silk trigger ( top image).

Later it moved back centre stage to the web, the bottom two images.

Close up these are such alien creatures. Humans have yet to manufacture anything as strong as spider silk, it is a wondrous thing. And that plump abdomen is full of it.
