Treasure trove

N was digging in an unused area of the garden yesterday. It had got overgrown and he wanted to tidy it up. This involved digging out the roots of a plant that he didn’t like very much. He was so surprised to unearth all these bottles! Two wine bottles, two gin bottles and two decorative clear glass ones that could have been lemonade bottles. They were thick with soil but have cleaned up quite nicely.
Our house was built in the 1890s and was originally stables and staff accommodation for a nearby house. I am wondering when council rubbish collection started, because I guess these were buried before that. They could be any date. The gin is from Booths Distillery London. An intriguing find, I would love to know more. N is digging again tomorrow, maybe more will turn up.
