Preparing for Take Off

After Mrs CBL and I had been for messages and enjoyed coffees and treats we went out for a walk along the shoreline.  It was a delight to stroll along the beach on such a pleasant day

I spotted this bird sitting on the rocks at the far end of the beach and from a distance thought it might be cormorant.  I was wrong (and not for the first time)!

I couldn’t identify the bird but once home and having done a little research I discovered it was a juvenile gannet. Clearly it has decided to get a head start on the other birds and leave Troup Head early heading south to spend winter in the Mediterranean.  I hope it has a safe flight.
