Kiss Flower

My informed observation is that socialising in Mozambique always entails a delay of 1-2 hours. I reported back to Amy, for whom I am on average between 30 and 60 minutes late, and told her she’d had it relatively good. She wasn’t placated and said I was getting a taste of my ‘own incredibly late medicine’.

Lundula and I drove to Quinta Beija Flor (literal translation is Kiss Flower (Hummingbird) Farm) in the northern burbs of Maputo. This is a garden slash park with grass, ponds, woodland and flowerbeds that is a great place to while away an afternoon. People were there clustered around BBQs, marking a marriage proposal by putting flowers all over a bridge, and celebrating a birthday with a violinist, karaoke machine and a loud rendition of Beyoncé’s Listen. In a city less built around green spaces, although still greener than most African cities I’ve been to, Quinta Beija Flor is an excellent find.

After a burger, it was back to the pressing funding proposal which government partners have asked my help with.
