Willy

A full day of scrambling to complete a funding proposal. I wonder if it’s ever possible to be working towards proposal deadlines in a sedate way. It may benefit us all if the mechanism of submitting something for 10% of proposals to be selected was abolished in favour of other ways of distributing money. Donors and agencies could collaborate more to ‘co-design’ programmes of work in line with mutually agreed strategies, or pre-select and mentor organisations more if they’re not skilled at winning bids. At the moment it’s hella stressful and more times than not, after weeks of work, you receive a rejection notice.

The highlight of the day was talking to Michelle, who has arrived in South Sudan. She videoed me from the compound where she’s staying in Yambio, where I have been known to hang out from time to time.

Willy Waddington is not a very Portuguese sounding name. I can’t find much about him online except that he may have been a photographer and/or journalist in Maputo some time between the 1960s and 1980s. No doubt Willy has (or had) some stories to tell.
