Day 5 - Downderry & East Looe

Day 5 of our A - Z alphabet challenge. Downderry & East Looe.

We stayed last night in Plymouth after watching the awesome Stereophonics live at Plymouth Pavillions. It was a cracking gig and nice to meet up with 2 of Jules' friends.

After a shocking nights sleep (thanks to Travelodge and some really noisy neighbours), we decided to make the most of our journey back by crossing off another 2 letters on our A - Z tour of Cornwall.

Our first stop was Downderry and The Inn on the Shore. There wasn't a lot to the village but the carvery at the pub was nice and it seemed pretty popular as they only just squeezed us in. We didn't wander too far after lunch as it was freezing and there wasn't too much to see so we jumped back into the nice warm car and headed for East Looe.

On the way to East Looe we ended up on a massive detour due to a landslip and some of the roads subsiding. At one point we didn't think we were going to get there and that we'd have to blip about East Taphouse but we finally got there and we were glad we did.

East Looe was really pretty and although we initially thought that it may not count as an 'E' we soon found plenty of signs relating to East & West Looe.

A bit about the town - Looe (Cornish: Logh, meaning deep water inlet) is a small coastal town & fishing port. The town is situated around a small harbour and along the steep-sided valley of the River Looe. Looe is divided in two by the River Looe, East Looe and West Looe, being connected by a bridge. The town is approximately 20 miles west of Plymouth.

We were quite surprised by the number of cafe's, bakery's and other eateries. And we thought Boscastle had a lot! You certainly wouldn't starve here!

After a wander around the shops we stopped off at a traditional tea shop for Jules's to take advantage of one of their fine cream teas. I've never seen scones sooo huge!

After the cream tea we headed back to the car to get warm and head off on another massive de-tour to get home.

Our next adventure will hopefully be F = Fowey. Don't know when it will be yet but keep following our page. I'm hoping the weather will of warmed up a bit by then. Oh, and if you have any suggestions for 'G', please let us know.
