If you can't beat them...

Moored boats.

When you need somewhere to permanently keep your boat you have two choices.  A marina, such as we use or "on line moorings".  The advantages of a marina are good facilities e.g. water taps, mains electricity, showers toilets, often repair facilities etc.  Obviously this comes at a fairly substantial cost.  The online moorings lack facilities but have the advantage of lower price and not being moored side by side as in a marina.

One of the disadvantages for canal users of online moorings is passing them.  It is expected that when you pass moored boats you slow down to "tick over" so that there is no banging about caused by your wash.  This isn't a problem when the boats are few but sometimes the lines of moored boats go on for a mile or so.  Fortunately not in this case.
