Morning walk

Had a Côte voucher to use by end Sept. (was extended for a year re Covid). Decided to have a change from our excellent Bournemouth branch and book in Dorchester.

Took the 10:04 (left about 20 minutes late, signal problems, what’s new?). Arrived in Dorchester just after 11. Spotted this guy walking (and working) on the roof of the block opposite the station. Looked precarious.

Found a new clothing shop nearby. Extraordinary and relatively inexpensive clothing. Went mad and treated myself to some goodies, and Mr B to a dazzling neon yellow check shirt. He can carry it off! My new go-to store, ‘just’ 45 mns train away :(

In Bournemouth centre I clothes shop at Zara and Primark, both excellent but limiting. H&M (looked tired) closed a few days ago.

3 hours to waste before lunch. Walked round the attractive Brewery Square by the station - a newish redevelopment, apartments and shops etc. - of the former brewery area.

Went into town and ‘did’ the main shopping area. A tourist map showed a nature reserve by the River Frome, not seen before, only 5mns walk away. So had the loveliest stroll along the narrow river, past allotments, and views over a field of sheep. Then took the long loop back to the ‘High Town’.

Came upon the Roman House, ‘the only example of a fully exposed Roman Town House in the country.’. A friend mentioned it the other day, but had no idea where it was. https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=roman+house+dorchester&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&hl=en-gb&client=safari

Late lunch, overate. Excellent, except everything accompanied by bread. We ordered a fougasse (bread), then tomatoes (on sourdough), then vegan burger (bun). Mr B had to eat my french fries. No dinner after that.
