Why did I come in here?

Lazy hints for decorators.

Many of you listeners do your own decorating. Good on you. I dislike painting, it’s boring unless the Garden Fairy is out of the house and I can listen to my favourite music of the day, anything from Verdi to Bruce Springsteen. Thankfully I am now unable to do such tasks.

The worst part of decorating can be the cleaning of brushes and rollers after the day’s work is done. This quick Blip may help lazybones such as me. The quick one first. Rollers can take ages to rinse, emulsion takes ages to get out of the fibres. Simply remove the roller from the handle, stretch out some cling film and roll the roller up in the film, not too tightly, or you will get flat spots. The roller and paint remain moist and ready for use the following day. Just in case there is a dullard out there.....take the film off before use.

This part is for the teachers amongst you who regularly allow your charges to paint, UkeleyHayley take note. Paintbrushes require more work when soaked in gloss. Rather than paint from the tin use a Costa (other liquid slop makers are available) cup and pour enough paint into it for the job in hand. Usually the master craftsman/person/we/they/us allows too much paint. Rather than pouring it back in the tin grab one of the gloves you have no doubt got lying around and pop the handle in a finger and leave the brush immersed in paint, slip the glove over the pot and you are good to go.

I’m working on a handy tip for face masks. There are some women and quite a few blokes who should wear one full time!!!

I’m out of battery now so may not be able to reply this evening. Take your opportunity!
