Unexpected fun

Our last full day here gave us the usual quandary - you’ve been given lots of ideas for an outing, but you also have vouchers to buy expensive local chocolate and Himself is suffering after yesterday’s unexpected hike.

In the end we started off in the chocolate shop in Peebles, had a wander along the high street, and returned to the car to confer. There was wind and fine drizzle. We decided on Kailzie Gardens, a short drive away along a narrow road inexplicably marked off with cycle lanes on both sides. If you avoided the lanes, you were left with what was essentially a single-track road. I dunno …

Kailzie was just lovely. The walled garden kept out the wind behind huge hedges and walls, and the original glasshouse held the most incredible collection of fuchsias. I may add an extra …

But my blip comes from the end of the afternoon, back at the hotel. For some reason, we felt we’d like to try the putting. It’s more like a combination of pitch and putt and crazy golf, but we used putters. I lost, but not utterly hopelessly - I won three holes. It was fun, and the sun came out.

Now, do we have enough diesel to get home?
