Ryvoan from Meall a Bhuachaille

Tomorrow a heavy rain front is sweeping through so it is likely to be a day of relaxation.  We decided to take advantage of the calm before the storm and clock up another Corbett, suggested by WilsdenWalker (thank you S).

We parked up by the Reindeer Centre and took the Old Logging Road up the Pass of Ryvoan, a pleasant gradual incline bordered by pine forest and fine, individual Scots Pines.  When we reached the Ryvoan Bothy we turned up the path ascending the flanks of Meall a Bhuachaille.  As we rose, the views opened up and we could see that the summit of Cairngorm was clear of cloud.  We were able to see back down the Pass to the Green Lochan and across to the Reindeer Paddocks on the foothills.  My blip is a view back down to the Ryvoan Bothy which you can just see.

Our walk up was sheltered but once on the ridge the wind blew cold and hard.  The shelter cairn at the summit needs some rebuilding and did not afford great protection so we had a quick cuppa and a Tunnocks, took in the 360 degree view and began our descent to the col with a fabulous view of Loch Morlich in the valley.

Back at the Visitor Centre, we paused for food at the Cafe before returning to The Byre for a very welcome bath!
