Mrs Pumphrey's House

This morning I dropped Mum off at the house of Mrs Pumphrey from the James Herriot vet books.

The house doesn't belong to Mrs Pumfrey (real name Miss Warner) any more, but to the Holyrood House Anglican community of which Mum has been a member for years. She's gone to a day retreat and I'm collecting her this evening, after supper. It's an 'arts and crafts' style house and the exterior looks a bit foreboding but there are some beautiful features - especially tiles - inside.

After dropping Mum, I walked Leia on the Sowerby Flatts and 'Miss Warner's Field' opposite the house. Miss Warner bought the field to preserve her view across the flatts and over to the Hambleton Hills. In 1976 she gifted the field to the Thirsk and Sowerby Flatts Preservation Trust so now everyone gets to enjoy it.

Leia certainly enjoyed it. She was like a puppy bounding around this morning and seemed to love having a new place to discover.
