Nostalgia

On the way back from Bath today we stopped off in East Devon. I know this row of cottages in Sidbury quite well. I have taken photographs of them before, but there is usually at least one car parked outside. No cars today, but still wheelie bins, television ariels and overhead cables. i made a black and white image this time to make it look less like a chocolate box photograph. This only made me more aware of the extent to which we are often attracted to a romantic impression of rural life. Although some people are now fortunate to be able to live the dream in relative comfort, the reality of rural life in the past (and indeed today for some) was far from easy.
