Simply Shocking

Who is the man with the hat? A black silhouette on a yellow background.

Above our main electricity distribution Pat has stacked several signs and stencils pointing out the danger of electrical equipment.

They belonged to her father, Victor. They arrived many years ago in a consignment of household paraphernalia Pat has imported for ourselves.

I have been checking the circuit diagrams I drew up in 1998 and comparing them with the reality.

Much has changed,

Our oil boiler was replaced with air source heat pumps. They run on green energy.

Our lamps have changed over to a wide variety of LED fittings.

Although our fire alarm system is interlinked it will need upgrading to meet the new requirements of the Scottish Government in February 2022.

Our internet is supplied over the mobile network. Although there is a fibre cable running in the pavement, the likelihood of it serving us is zero.

I am designing a new security system complete with surveillance cameras and smart doorbells.

Lots of changes. Other homeowners will be doing something similar.

Smart meters? I am not convinced about these. However, they do not available for a 415V 3 phase supply.

Back to the thumbnail of the man with the hat. If he has received an electric shot, shouldn’t his hat have blown off his head.
