Still no dolphins

Scotland trip day 8 Poolewe.

Today we headed up the West coast towards Gruinard , before we left Mr PC asked if I was taking my big lens, I replied we were unlikely to see any wild life, how wrong could I be. At our first stop over-looking Gruinard bay we were amazed to see numerous seals basking on the rocks. Getting down for a better view Mr PC cried out look, look !.He’d only spotted a heron fishing in a rock pool.

Many photos later we head onto Mellon Udrigle and had a walk along the beach, doggies not allowed off the lead as sheep grazing in the dunes.

We drive further along until we find another beach this time dog friendly.

After a good walk in the sunshine we head for home stopping on the roadside over looking Loch Ewe - a deep sea loch was used as a base for the arctic convoys from 1941 to 1944.  At times, up to 95 Royal Navy and merchant ships anchored in the loch. These ships provided essential supplies to Russia along a route described by Winston Churchill as “the worst journey in the world”.

The crumbling concrete towers, rusting metal posts and old gun emplacements around the loch are evidence of this remarkable wartime story.

We return back to base and enjoy a little drink sitting outside.

As I write it is tipping it down and the forecast is not good for the next few days . Hey ho:)
