How To Make Salt.

Today was a marvellous calm sunny day. It is a day to be out and about. A day for breathing the sea air and walking along part of the Fife Coastal Path.

Of course, we picked up some fresh seafood. We parked CactusFBI in St Monans and headed along the coastal path towards Pittenweem.

Today’s Blipfoto features the windmill which pumped the St Monans Saltpans. Established in 1771 by Sir John Anstruther the saltpans were the third largest in Fife.

The windmill no longer pumps and the Panhouses have disappeared apart from the remains of one shown in the extra.

The second extra shows part of the rocky shore nearby. It is fairly obvious that this part of the shore continues to be eroded judging by the geology and the warning notices at frequent intervals.

We encountered many dogs taking their owners for walks and many OAPs enjoying the sea air and exercise.

We also encountered some cold water bathers enjoying themselves, although one pool was shared by two young swans.

The pool is scoured out by the tides every day,.

The fresh caught scallops were delicious.
