My friend and me had a lovely day today doing some sight seeing and making food together. She wanted to see "Capellagården", a school for learning various crafts like pottery, woodwork, textile, gardening and so on. The school was founded in 1957 by a Swedish icon; Carl Malmsten, who wanted to create a school where practice came first and theory in second hand. The school continues to be highly regarded and the students works as craftspeople and designers. In the grass outside the pottery workshop we found this little sculpture, one of many that caught my eye.

After a good lunch and a rest we visited Kalmar so see the old theatre building where I sometimes work, one of Swedens oldest theatres, built 1863.

Then we went to one of the other theatres in Kalmar to see the performance that was the reason for my friend to come to visit me in the first place, a play about a group of Danish people starting a collective deep in the forest of Småland, quite close to where I live. They started it in the 70's to live close in close harmony to nature and starting their own school there. Very soon they clashed with the natives who felt provoked by what they saw as an irresponsible living in sin by the influence of sex and drugs. The play dealt with their conflict and what happened afterwards. We both liked the play very much. It was set like a mini musical, containing a lot of brilliantly performed  songs and music, very moving in places.
A full day.
