Remembering Castles

By 4pm the rain had stopped and I walked outside to the sound of water dripping from the trees, which were still dark from the drenching although the sky had begun to brighten. The downpour had brought with it significant quantities of leaves that lay carpeted all around, thick enough not to show the ground beneath.

It reminded me of autumns long ago when as a child we lived in an avenue lined with trees which regularly produced volumes of leaves. I recall we gathered them into circular piles representing forts or castles in our imaginations. Funny what associations spring to mind!
