Furnace

Fascinating building here in Ponte Dell'Olio. It's an old furnace. Surprisingly it both comprises a deal of wood in its construction and was in use into the 1950's.

We wanted to stay off the Autovia today and to try to find some real Italy. Most of what we found was dull, uninspiring and very built up. It was a relief when we finally reached some pretty areas but that wasn't until we were close to destination. We were both thinking about how quickly we might leave Italy... I think that was after the red mini crossed the solid white line, overtook three cars and was heading straight into our front end. Evasive manoeuvres, braking, and loud swearing all helped to keep us out of collision. It was not the only incident of the day but it was the one most likely to do us damage and will be retained in memory for a while.

Tonight we are on a dedicated motorhome parking run by the local community fishing club so are parked next to their bar and the fishing pond. To one side of us is the town's football club, where multiple matches are being played this afternoon.

It's not all bad, as we can access a walk along the river if we squeeze around the back of the football pitch
