Proper flowers

Secretly I have always thought the real, archetypal flower is round, with a circlet of petals around a centre. Isn’t that every child’s first flower drawing?

These ‘real’ flowers are in our garden, except for the periwinkle. It’s just as well that one is from elsewhere, because it is a rampageous weed, growing in a dense mat and happy to suffocate any other flower it encounters.

Today is the last day of lockdown in NSW. We have just been checking out the rules that apply from tomorrow and it’s clear that it will still be very different from our former life. For example we can't go to Sydney and we can only have ten visitors to our house, and then only if they are double vaccinated. Much depends on how people react to the change and interpret the new rules. We will still be very cautious.
