Opening up

Today is the end of lockdown in NSW. The golf course was totally deserted when I walked past this morning. Clearly the golfers are busy exercising their new freedoms, visiting cafes, having their hair and nails done and visiting each other’s houses in groups of up to ten. If they are fully vaccinated, that is: there are more restrictions for people who are unvaccinated or only partly vaccinated. I hope the golfers haven’t gone to Sydney, because we aren’t allowed to do that yet.

Working out what we can and can’t do can be challenging and some of the restrictions seem a little odd. It appears for example that you can now dance at funerals, although there is no word on singing. You must wear a mask in an aircraft – when it is flying over NSW.

It’s easy to find flaws in the rules. The truth is, though, that we have become somewhat comfortable with being locked down. Now we have to learn how to live with opening up.
