St James the less

Seem to have survived relatively unscathed from my fall yesterday and managed to pick up my friend Olivia to go to South Wales for Sian’s fathers funeral. We left at 9.15 and it should have been a three and a half hour drive but turned into four and a quarter as I got lost as is my wont! Fortunately Olivia had a sat nav which worked and we had a lovely drive through a few welsh villages and glorious autumn countryside! We popped into the farm to get directions to the church and made our way to where they had a field to park in!

Bearing in mind that we were there at 13.39 and the funeral didn’t start till 14.30 there were many people arriving in suitable funeral clothes and standing around in the graveyard lining the path that the coffin was to be carried along.

We slipped into the church to see what it was like and I took the photo. We then went back outside to take our place sitting on a grave up high!

Being a farming community he was brought to the church on a tractor and trailer and carried into church by his grandchildren and son in law. There were three hymns and comments from grandchildren about their grandfather who sounded like he was lot of fun!

I only ever really knew him in his decline but he still had a twinkle in his eyedespite his declining health. He was 86 and had been a part of so many societies and was in the NFU and whenever he went toabergavenny to the farmers market they had to go early because everybody wanted to talk to him and he had time for them.

He had a great beardwhich was put to good use every Christmas when he played Father Christmas for his family and local schools.

The wake was in the barn at the farm and we went back after the burial for a quick cup of tea and some cake and to give ou respects to the family and then we set off back to Plymouth.we were back in three hours which was a really good drive back. No getting lost! Well once when we didn’t listen to the sat nav properly!. It is a very nice car to drive and a great colour! I’ll post a photo of the car tomorrow. Bit tired now! Sleep well all!
