Clocks @ HOT

Today’s Blipfoto features the hall clock at HOT (Hill of Tarvit Mansionhouse)

It is a "marriage" between an 18th century French oak case and a 19th century English Movement. I refer to it as "The Clock whose face does not fit". This can be seen from the Blipfoto thumbnail.

It does have a significance in the design of the Mansionhouse. Frederick Sharp had specified that this clock should be located near the entrance so that when leaving the house he could check the accuracy of his watch. It is a very accurate clock.

Robert L designed this niche. The oak of the clock case inspired the use of oak timber in the Great Hall and the staircase.

I have described the The French Clock before which normally resides in the Drawing Room. It has now been removed and is away for "servicing".

It has been another very busy day with many visitors enjoying the house.

Pat was complimented by two visitors on the conducted tour that she and a gentleman had given to them on a previous visit and this had encouraged them to revisit the house with friends.

That is the first time I have ever been referred to as a gentleman.

The Mobile Barrista was in residence and we enjoyed our lunch break outside on the terrace.

I was "ambushed" in the car park by Hugh S and given a report on the condition and proposed conservation of Hugh S’s ruinous castle.

Apparently politics are surrounding this and he asked if I could give support in any way.

I can see that this could become an activity for me over the next few months.

Back home and we watched the highlights of the Turkish Grand Prix.

Delighted that Valterri Bottas won in a convincing manner.

Then watched Strictly The Results. Pat was equally pleased with the outcome.
