Epic Day

So many appropriate photos to choose from today. I ultimately had to go with this one. This is me, yards from the finish line after running 400 feet up a ski hill and skiing down, 1.5 hilly miles of snowshoeing, 2.25 miles of nordic skiing, 7.4 miles of wet, cold, icy biking, and 2 miles of running. Two hours and some change, it was the hardest thing I've ever done.

We woke up to many inches of snow on the ground with it still coming down. 20 people digging out cars and loading up massive amounts of gear made for some good fun. (I had 5 pairs of footwear, 2 pairs of skiis and poles, a bike, helmet, chair, some clothes, and of course the required burger king crown).

Then was the race. Warm-ish, snow falling down, beautiful day for a race. The 'drinking team' did an excellent job of cheering, drinking, photographing and rocking their own burger king crowns. The racers all made it across the finish line.

After stuffing our faces with food, we proceeded to begin the post-party. This party included a 'bar-fight' with someone being 'thrown' through a pane-glass-window. One of my fellow solo-racers, D, had as #2 on his life list to be thrown through a glass window. So, his girl arranged this for his birthday. He came into the garage, where all 20 of us were staring at him. He knew something was up, but couldn't figure out what. Then he got cracked over the head with a beer bottle (stunt glass of course). Hilarity ensued.

Then came out the grand-finale. A hand-built, 9-pane window. We positioned it over a large snow-bank. D lined up with ski goggle on (safety first!) and dove through the window. He declared it was everything he hoped it could be and more.

Generally, racers are asleep by 2pm. The party was still going strong well into the morning. ...which turned out to be daylight savings time...and we couldn't get a late check-out...and there were beer cans and stunt glass everywhere...
