North Yorkshire Barns

We drove home today from our little break near Whitby! After a frustrating evening yesterday we were keen to get going…we were looking for dinner last night - and found that the village pub, that we had been led to believe was open and serving food wasn’t in fact so!!! We drove into Whitby again and all the pubs and restaurants were pretty much full ‘Have you booked?’ became quite tiring after walking into several eateries…of course we hadn’t - so no dinner. In the end we went to the Co-op and bought Hoisin pot noodles, prawn crackers, profiteroles, jelly beans and beer and gin - quite a feast to eat in our hotel room!

On our way back across the moors towards Helmsley we came across these delightful barns nestled in the dip of Hamer Beck along a road called Hamer Bank! We stopped in the village of Roasedale Abbey for a coffee and then drove up Chimney Bank (with a gradient of 1:3 in places) to the old lime kilns

Then on to Hutton-le-Hole for a short wander - in the church I saw this lovely carving on the lectern

Then we continued on to home, stopping only at Boroughbridge for some groceries! So at least we have a pizza and some salad for tea tonight, slightly less unhealthy than last night!!

Apologies again - I am now even further behind with reading / comment on your journals….many thanks for your continued support of mine!
