Who ate all the pies?

This blip should also start with ‘What. A. Day’ but for different reasons to yesterday.

I was back in work this morning for 9am and didn’t get home until 4, but what a rewarding experience.

We are lucky that all areas of dentistry are covered at our clinic; from basic fillings to complex surgical procedures.
Today we had our gum specialist in so I particularly wanted to meet him, observe him in action and pick his brains, especially since I will be responsible for maintaining patients after he’s done the hard work.

I learned loads! Some of it was just simple likely things like how to position the patient and the chair to maximise visual access. Easy when you know how.
He did give me a bit of a grilling and I’m too old to bullshit, so admitted where I think I can improve.
He respected my honesty and said it was good that I’d asked the questions I did, rather than just smile and nod.
Happily, I’m not too far from his ideals and he’s invited me to join him on future sessions to observe and learn more about all the aspects of his job.
I won’t need to be asked twice; I’m there already!

Our last patient of the day was a treat for me. He was one of the ambulance crew who took me to Salford a couple of times for my appointments; we’d got along really well and always chatted the whole journey, so I’d instantly recognised his name in the diary (it’s fairly unique).
He beamed when I said who I was and we had another good chat to catch up with what’s been happening with us both.
He was a very patient patient and kindly let me practice using the 3D scanner on him. This was one of the gadgets I purposely went to be trained on today, so I’m happy I got to test it on someone nice.

We took delivery of a box full of pies early morning; from a grateful patient who said the local butchers made the most amazing, award winning pies which he thought we’d enjoy. How lovely is that?
Sadly for the dentists but yay for me the meat based ones weren’t halal, so I was instructed to fill my boots and take home what was left or they’d go to waste.
They are worthy of awards; packed to the brim with steak and gravy; one of them made for a perfect late lunch. I’ll save the other two for tomorrow.
They taste as good as they look and I loved that they put different designs on the lids so you know which pie is which. Genius! :-)
