Fountains abbey

I was awake early with barking dogs from the other van in the field. I had rained heavily in the night so the farmer phoned to see if we needed help getting out of the field. It was no bother for Mr C who is a good driver.

We headed for Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal deer park. Luckily it stayed dry and was a warm 15 degrees. Unfortunately we didn’t have enough time to walk to the deer park as we covered 5 miles around the abbey and water gardens. It’s a beautiful place and will be even prettier in a week or two when more of the tree colours turn. I do prefer these NT properties with deciduous trees to our local Cragside with its North American and Chinese trees and plants which don’t support as much bird life.

Now we are heading up the A1 and home.
