Helvellyn

Started off towards Grasmere today, but on the south side of Dunmail rise, it was snowing heavily, so we came back as far as Thirlmere. The snow on Helvellyn looked great and the temptation to start walking uphill was strong, but we resisted, and I took this view. The sun just gave enough sparkle to the snow, and the clouds above Helvellyn prevended any blown highlights, (although a 0.45 Grad filter did help here!)

Shortly after taking this, I disappeared up to my waist in the snow - into a river gully that had filled with drifted snow, managed to crawl out - no harm done!

Ironically, a year ago I was photographing bees in the garden - how variable is the British weather!
