The Voice That No-one Can Hear
That's a pretty accurate description of my voice. I spent the best part of 5 hours on the phone trying to fix a problem - not my problem, but a programmer problem. I offered my best help - it's a database problem, and the database adminstrators have to set something up, I do not know what. It's definitely not a problem with the tool that I support.
I tried a lot of variations on "The DBAs have to help here, I CANT'T fix this" and 4 people in the telephone conference heard "Peter WON'T help us and it's a problem he's responsible for".
And it went on and on and on and on.
It genuinely didn't matter what I said. I tried showing them that the set up was exactly the same for every project. They weren't interested - I tried pointing out that the error message came from the database, they weren't interested.
I roped colleagues in who backed what I had said. Not interested - Peter's not helping us.
They want to dance this dance again to tomorrow.
I shall practise "No habla allemans" tonight and tomorrow my name will be Raul.
