Bottleneck

So I started work this morning and an e-mail arrived in my in-box.

You know that thing that didn't work yesterday and we said was a problem with the software that Peter is responsible for and how we ignored him saying it was a database problem.

Turns out it was a database problem and we fixed it and aren't we great?

This is my normal day at work - make a suggestion, get ignored.  Someone else makes the same suggestion and suddenly it's the best idea ever.  Of course that doesn't get wearing or demotivating at all.

I had another glorious day at work.

I had to use our change management system.  I hate having to use it because it's awful.  But I thought I'd play by the rules and use the system to document the infrastructure of a new project I'm building.

So I wrote in the Change "I'm setting up a new development project in SCLM".

They rejected that because I didn't supply enough details.  Not that they would understand any of the technical things I have to do to set up a project.  Nor do they have to do anything other than click on OK

But I added lots of details and had to reschedule the time because the tool is awful.  So I rescheduled it to 1pm and we'd be finished by 1:30.  That would give them 2 hours to press OK.

I got a mail at 2:30 - change rejected because the implementation time is in the past.

My company has a motto "Du bist nicht allein" - "you are not alone".  Obviously they missed out the bit that says "except when you're dealing with change management, those effers will do everything they can not to help".

And the reason for my Blip is that the company that bottles this water must have a new machine for putting the caps on the bottles.  I need pliers to open a bottle.
