Life in Sunny Dubai

Metro Revisited

(18/10/21)

It is my elder sister's birthday today, and we didn't get to have a Sister's Zoom call because she was busy! It's too sad for words, especially as it is Sunday (her day off) and G is on half-term, so we could have chatted in the morning. Oh well.

We were still up early as I booked the new car in for a Platinum detailing package. The garage is in an industrial estate not too far from G's school. Car dropped off, we caught a taxi to the nearest Mall where friend Diane met up with us to bring us home. We had a cup of coffee with her first, though. Oh, and as we had some time, G & I actually queued up to enter the Apple store. We then had a demo on the latest iPad/iPad Air.

We got home to find that one of our A/c's had malfunctioned, so I called the technician to arrange for him to visit. Thankfully, he can come first thing tomorrow morning. G's lesson in Geneva got cancelled, so we decided to tackle public transport (something we've been avoiding since COVID) to get to the garage.

I am pleased to report that it was a piece of cake! Ten-minute walk to the nearest Metro station. Things have changed. The "Women and Children's" carriage is now the last one, and at 7 pm, it wasn't crowded in the direction we were going. A very kind lady insisted on giving up her seat for me. No idea why!

Twenty minutes later, We got off at our stop and walked to the bus stop to catch the feeder bus. That wasn't leaving for another fifteen minutes, so we walked to the garage (which was a fifteen-minute walk). Pleased to say it all went smoothly, and the car was ready to go. It looks fantastic inside and out.

We needed a drive, so filled up with petrol and then started to head back home, except we stopped off in Wafi for a bite. The Rooftop Garden in Wafi Gourmet was the venue of choice tonight. What a place! We opted to eat outdoors despite the temperature and humidity. I sat down and commented on how pleasant it felt there. As the evening progressed, it became clear that there was some type of cooling going on as the marble table was very cold, and we were starting to get a bit chilly.

Typical Wafi; the waiter informed us that there are aircon units all around the perimeter and if that wasn't enough, there is cooling under the floor tiles!! No wonder we've seen people dining outdoors even at the height of the summer. I don't even want to start thinking about the carbon footprint of this restaurant. I hope they have solar panels.
