Lindisfarne

Our walking club will be having a short break early next year, and today six of us drove down south to recce the walks, hotel, etc.  Linda and Tom picked us up from home and we drove to a garden centre near Berwick on Tweed to meet up with Dave and Kathy, and we had rolls and bacon and a beverage while there.

Then we drove to Fenwick in Northumbria and started our walk to Lindisfarne, the Holy Isle.

Crossing the main Edinburgh to London railway line is not for the faint hearted.  You have to phone the signalman, and he tells you when it is safe to cross.  When you get to the other side you have to phone him to tell him all are safely over.

When the club does the walk we will cross over to the island on the Pilgrim's Way but we could not do that today as the tides were not suitable.  We had a great walk and I have collated some pictures of our day.

We drove on to Durham where we are staying for 2 nights, and settled into our hotel.  Had a good meal and some good chat before a good night's sleep.
