Stourhead NT gardens

Today we headed west and visited the NT gardens at Stourhead, near Mere. Passing Stonehenge we were struck by how few tourists were there… guessing there are still none of the coach tours which took overseas tourists on a whistle stop tour of Stonehenge, Bath and Stratford.
We had hoped for more autumn colourings but surprised the trees were still mostly green!
Intermittent showers and sunshine both while there and en route. The tulip tree has less yellow leaves than the one at Claremont! Wondering if a tulip tree was a.status symbol when the gardens were laid out in 18C?

We have not been there for quite a while and were surprised at how large the car park is …presumably the whole place must get very very busy at times including  the light show at Christmas. However not impressed with the total lack of any child friendly activities which you find at all the NT properties in the London area. Very odd as it’s half term week now and next week.
