Life in Newburgh on Ythan

Flints and lichens

I just love finding stone age flint workings sitting among the sand dunes. It gives a profound sense of continuity to think of our long, long dead forebears sitting here in the mesolithic knapping flints to produce simple stone tools. And a few 1000 years on, here am I, photographing their industrial waste with a digital camera, and then sending the photograph around the world in microseconds, all at the press of a button. We humans really are quite amazing creatures, despite our many and varied faults. Let us celebrate ourselves!

Best viewed through another amazing invention, the magnifying glass.
