It's been a busy few days of political activity.

It started Monday evening with 90 minutes of online presentation of the new sports hall the council is about to build. It all looked very good.  It will be used by two schools in the weekdays, and by many sports associations at the weekends and in the evenings. An associated project will improve the football pitches on the edge of town. The plan is for it all to be in use by autumn 2023, which is very ambitious.
Yesterday evening I was in town to discuss our committee's budget, including all the extra work and cost around that new sports hall. And today our committee sat all day. Actually we didn't sit. We started in the new after-school centre, so we could see how previous decisions we had made had worked out, then we toured a nearby area of town which is a mix of houses, flats, small shops and minor industry, and is culturally and historically important.
After lunch we met again in the library until we finally finished up around 5 o'clock.
On our tour we passed the building in the main picture, which was constructed in 1860, and was the first building in town to have central heating installed from the start.  The extra shows the back of a group of houses in this area.
Because of planning difficulties the area has been neglected, but that very neglect has led to a rather charming mix, we we are trying to preserve, through creative planning!!
