Angle Shades

How wonderful gardening is for uncovering weird and wonderful creatures. The front garden had a much-needed trim and weed, and as I grabbed some cuttings from the path, this guy fell out and lay with wings quivering. I dashed in to grab the camera, coaxed the moth onto a dandelion leaf that I'd picked for the guinea pigs (my weeds do not go to waste), and snapped some pictures before he recovered enough to fly away.

A UK moths website tells me that this species is called Angle Shades, and it can be found throughout Britain disguising itself as a withered leaf.
