Goodnight

Kevin had to replace his car this weekend because while driving in Montana last week a bull elk stepped out in front of him on the road.  He did the smart thing and stopped as soon as he could without swerving but could not avoid hitting him and the the poor elk broke the windshield and crushed the motor and then fell down a steep embankment by the side of the road.  Kevin and Max were not hurt but the car was totaled.  So fortunately since he was out in the middle of nowhere, 3 people stopped to make sure he was okay.  No cell service but they contacted the troopers and a tow truck driver once they got in range.  People in Montana are so very nice.  Kevin is lucky to be alive.  The trooper said it happens all the time because the elk walk into the road constantly, more so now.  But usually the driver is not so lucky.  This was a huge elk and being so tall he did not come crashing inside just broke the windshield and crushed the front of the car.  Anyway Kevin found a the same model two years younger than his old car in jSpokane so he flew there early this morning and drove it back this afternoon.  It is a beautiful car.  He felt sorry for the elk but the trooper said by the time they could get someone  to go down the embankment out that far, the coyotes would have gotten to him.  Anyway so thankful Kevin survived and that he found a car so quickly.  I started the Killers of the Flower Moon today as I think that it is the one we will discuss in book group next month.  It is fascinating - a true story about Native Americans in Osage County Oklahoma in the 1920s.  So much I do not know about our history.  Happy to be reading the book but it is a troubling story.
