Last in Line

Crocus laevigatus, a species that is found on many Greek Islands as  well as the mainland.  The island populations have evolved to many different subtle variations including flowering time which can be from October through to March.   It's the only species to have this range.  In the garden they mostly flower a bit later than the main flush, appearing as the others go over as they are this year.   I have had this dark  flowered form in flower on Christmas Day in Norfolk but am excited to have been sent a few corms of a form that flowers in spring.  Waiting.

A day of two halves.  It started dull, windy and wet but ended bright and almost clear along the coast.   A morning of odd jobs followed by a visit   to see Jamie, work and a meal with Jamie later on.  All interspersed with dog walks including a trip out to the field Rhydyronen where some high octane ball and stick chasing went on.  Driving away I thought I'd drop in on Jane and John who are here at the moment and as I turned into the caravan site I got a text from John.   Some kind of subliminal messaging going on too - they've been here twenty four hours but he only messaged when I was just a hundred yards away and on the point of visiting!  Nice to catch up with them.
