The pocket watch was invented by German watchmaker Peter Henlein in 1510.

This pocket watch has been in my wife's family for many years. It was originally owned by her grandfather who migrated from the Isle of Man to Australia in the 1880s. He became a successful baker in Sydney. This pocket watch would have been a symbol of his prosperity. It was made by the American Waltham Watch Company, based in the town of Waltham, Massachusetts. The company was in business between 1850 and 1957.
