Wound up in Wexford

Mallow

Back blipped on 31st October.

The price for this photo of a rainbow was a thorough soaking.

We drove into Mallow on the hunt for electric car chargers.  There are two in Mallow, ostensibly 22kW, so we found the one at the station, hooked up, and went off to do some shopping, and get a cup of tea.  It was lovely weather when we left our lodgings, so we didn't even take coats in the car.  It was still lovely when we left the car, so even if the coats had been in the car, we would probably have left them there.

On emerging from the hotel where we'd had our cuppa it was pouring down.  So we got well soaked walking back to the car - lesson learned!  The prize for our soaking was that the sun came out, and there was an impressive rainbow.  It was however still raining at this point, so most of my photos are marred by raindrops on the lens.

On getting back to the car, we found that, although the chargers are meant to give 22kWh, our car didn't seem to be able to take more than about 4, so our charge level had gone up just 10% in over 2 hours (in contrast, a 50kW fast charger will get us from 20% to 80% in about an hour).

We were ready for lunch, so drove up to Buttevant, a pretty little village with some interesting houses (1st extra), where we found a cafe.

After eating, we had a look at the ruins of Ballybeg Priory (2nd and 3rd extras), once again in lovely sunshine, then returned to our lodgings, where we took up our hosts offer of connecting to their electricity supply.  Trickle charging with a lead from an ordinary house power supply using what is known as a "granny charger" is very slow, but we can remain hooked up overnight and eventually it will fully recharge the battery.

It's raining again this morning so we have opted for a lazy day, leaving the car getting more electrons.
