Now, as I see it......

Not a Great Railway Journey

The ‘Aurora Watch’ alarm went off on my phone at 10pm last night warning of a strong possibility of seeing the Aurora from anywhere in the UK.  I nipped outside and sure enough, there it was!  It wasn’t spectacular as we are fairly well south; just pulsing white and mauve light in the sky for about five minutes, but as we have no light pollution here it was plain to see and the first time I’ve ever seen it.

This afternoon we spent a couple of hours in a rather draughty and windswept theatre on the end of Cromer Pier listening to Michael Portillo.  Very entertaining; he started off with a couple of old jokes but then talked for about an hour about his life in politics and his subsequent career as a television presenter.  An excellent speaker; entertaining and informative, with lots of funny tales.  He then took questions from the audience for about half an hour.  All in all, very enjoyable.

The sea was very stormy with a north wind blowing.  I took a shot (in the extra) of the waves on the shore as we walked back along the pier, but my main shot is of the pier itself after the show.
