Vertical Farming

Unfortunately I couldn't wait for the massive COP26 march in Glasgow today as I had an appontment for a Covid booster jag.

But today's Blip subject is related to COP26 and this exhibition of vertical farming has been seen by many of the delgates.   Benefits include better use of space, no chemicals or pesticides, less water required, environmentally friendly,  reduced need for fossil fuels and carbon production,  avoids problems associated with extreme weather. .

First developed by scientists for astronauts in space. Its seen as an ideal solution for countries in the Middle East who are suffering more and more from excessive heat, and the Nordic region whre they have a lack of light. And in the UK where almost half the food is imported,  this is a potential answer to the 70% increase in production we are likely to need by 2050.
At one time they could only use it to grow leafy greens but now it can grow carrots, peppers, avocados, broccoli etc etc.   And hopefully they won't feel the need to package them in plastic!
