Project 365 day 310: Winter Neighbours

This afternoon, our winter neighbours were moved into the field outside J's bedroom windows. The sheep have been in the field to the other side of the house for a long time now, and the grass was looking very depleted. When we went out to greet them, they were all still in a crowd near the gate. Some stood and stared at us, but most were entirely preoccupied with the delights of lush grass and hedgerow herbs.

J and I went for our Covid booster vaccinations this morning. Folkestone's large vaccination centre, in the former Debenham's store, was much quieter than at our last visit, with a far smaller area of the ground floor laid out with vaccination stations. I was pleased that the booster programme is using the Pfizer vaccine, as it's reported to be considerably more effective against the current, highly transmissible Delta variant than the Astra Zeneca vaccine we received earlier in the year. ONS (Office for National Statistics) data reports that an estimated one in fifty people in England had Covid last week; our criminally irresponsible government continues to refuse to impose any limits on behaviour, despite ever rising case numbers and deaths, which have now climbed to around a thousand a week. Since we now know that vaccination limits the severity of illness but does not prevent infection or transmission, it's hard to see how the situation is going to improve. I'm glad we have had the boosters, but certainly did not experience the hope I felt when we went for our first vaccinations last February.
