As today was probably the last day we could go to the beach for a few weeks we set off for our usual walk through the Nature reserve at Aberlady and round the point then back through Gullane and the John Muir Way to Aberlady.   Part of the route, which a few weeks ago was full of flowers, was completely flooded despite the tide being right out but we managed to get round with only a little paddling.  Due to the recent stormy weather and high spring tides the beach further on had changed considerably over the last fortnight with more erosion of the high dunes and large tree trunks washed up.  Already the log is getting covered by windblown sand and the strings of “twine” visible beside the log are actually exposed roots of the marram grass which help to bind the dunes. With the tide being low we managed to scramble over the rocks to walk along Gullane beach and despite being drenched by the rain by the time we arrived back at the car we had still enjoyed the walk
