A New Day

Templeton Woods, Dundee

We had to go in to Dundee today, so decided to stop off at Templeton Woods on the way there in the hope of seeing some red squirrels. The ground was still very snowy, in spite of a bright blue sky, so I took it very carefully and only walked a couple of hundred yards with my dodgy knee (which is healing well).

We'd taken a flask and a sandwich (hardly a picnic!) and looked for somewhere to sit and eat, but this stone seat looked rather chilly. We managed to find a wooden bench a bit further on with a lovely woven rush windbreak and enjoyed a snowy view of the Sidlaw Hills.

Other items of interest in this pretty wood included a painted totem pole, a set of hanging logs (like tubular bells) which played notes when hit with a stick and several wood carvings dotted among the trees. No sign of any red squirrels though:-(
